IDENTIFYING ANTIQUES! – ANY OLD IRON!
An Antiques Roadshow expert comes to Buckfast

An introduction to buying antiques and integrating and using them in today’s homes. Taking Place at Buckfast Abber Conference Centre between 1000 and 1500 on Wednesday 23 September

The morning lectures are a practical and inspirational look at furniture, ceramics, glass, lighting and metal ware, to identify key designs and designers, and then examine the revolutionary design movements they began.

Then the afternoon session involves Mark working with the audience to run an identification or Q&A session around the items brought in by attendees, aiming at an enjoyable interactive last hour of the day.

World Class Art at the Tate
Ian Swankie

Lecture 1
We begin with Tate Britain and an introduction to the founding of the
collection and the architecture of the building, followed by an exploration the works. Tate Britain houses art by British artists, and artists who have worked in Britain. It covers the period from the 1500s to the present day. We will see early portraits painted on wood panels, landscapes, Victorian moralistic works through to 20 th century abstracts, installations, and conceptual art.

Lecture 2
Along the river is the cathedral of international twentieth and twenty first century modern art, Tate Modern which originally opened in 2000 after the conversion of the disused Bankside power station. We will see how the massive redundant industrial building was transformed with sleek new architecture and its engagement with the local environment. In June 2016 Tate Modern opened its doors to the stunning new Blavatnik Building immediately setting the new gold standard for museum design. Ian will take us through the highlights of the sometimes challenging, always thought-provoking collection.

The cost of the day, including coffee and biscuits at the break will be £25 per person.

Payment can be made by BACS (preferred method) to:
